About the park
Galicica is part of the Shar-Pindus mountain range. Its Macedonian side became a national park in 1958 for its natural beauty and its rich, endemic plants and animals. The park covers 227 km² between Lakes Ohrid and Prespa and runs from north to south.
Most of the mountain is massive limestone, 500 to 550 m thick and full of pores, laid over older rock. Large, deep valleys cut into it, and in the south its long crest rises above 2,000 m.
