About the park
Pelister became a national park in 1948 for the molika (Pinus peuce), a relict pine from the Tertiary period, and for the glacial relief of its alpine zone. It lies on Baba Mountain, the third-highest mountain in Macedonia, along the border with Greece and only 15 km from Bitola, the second-largest city in the country.
Its forests are lush and full of water. The core of the mountain is granite, some of it 465 million years old, and many of its peaks rise above 2,000 m.
