How a ski tour works

You walk uphill on touring skis with climbing skins, then take the skins off and ski down. Your guide checks the snow and the avalanche risk every day, picks the route and keeps the group small. Everyone carries a transceiver, shovel and probe.

Questions and answers

Do I need ski touring experience?

No, but you should ski confidently off the piste. Your guide shows you how to use skins and touring bindings on the first climb.

Can I rent touring skis?

Yes. We arrange touring skis, skins and boots. Tell us your sizes when you book.

When is the ski touring season?

Usually from December to March, and often into April on Shar Mountain. We choose the day and the route by the snow and the weather.

Is ski touring safe?

Ski touring always carries avalanche risk. We go only with a guide who checks the conditions every day, in small groups, and everyone carries a transceiver, shovel and probe.
